What Do You Use Facebook For?

Most people will say without doubt teenagers are the most active Facebook users. That’s about to be proven wrong. A recent seminar I attended showed statistics that proved people between the ages of 34 and 54 years old are more active on Facebook and are more likely to log on to Facebook via their cellular phones than teenagers.

What can it be that attracts people of that age gap to Facebook? Maybe connecting with old school friends, checking out how far did that nerd from school got and maybe advertising their business online? All three of these options are reasons why this “generation” uses Facebook. After looking at more social network statistics I will support the reason that they might use Facebook to advertise their businesses. 38 Million People in the US alone stated that social media influences their purchasing decisions. This is one powerful tool to have and it has to be carefully managed. That’s why it is so time consuming.

People talk and brands need presence. Word-of Mouth has been the most effective way of advertising since the Stone Age, and will be always be. Social media just helped everyone to get closer to listen up and speak!

More reasons to use Facebook will include things like; making friends, to be a friend to someone who needs one, improve your writing skills (or show how idiotic it is) and you can even improve your image if you don’t have a great real-life one.

Everything in moderation won’t kill anyone. Obsession with social networks caused a lot of suicide attempts among teens, even murders and other sick minded actions. We can all use Facebook to our advantage when used in moderation. Facebook should be informative, not too personal to be embarrassed about, and not a gossip column for the desperate.
