The Freedom to enjoy

The trick with travel is that you need to be flexible, if you are going on a road trip or a gap year you need to be able to change it up at any moment. The possibility of finding something really great and then having to leave because you have a schedule is possibly the worst thing that could happen to you there can be speed bumps along the way but you have to make sure that you have your rubber mats in place and you are ready for anything.

In my experience it is always good to make sure that you can roll with the punches, on a road trip the best recipe is being able to stop and take in what is around you. It’s all about making the best out of every situation. I am obsessed with going on long road trips so I know exactly what the perfect formula is, there are things that work and there are things that don’t. What does not work is planning everything sure some things have to be planned, but rather try and ‘wing it’. It is the art of relaxation and living life each day as it comes, it can take a lifetime to master but once you have that happy go lucky attitude you will never look back.

If you are driving down the road and suddenly you can’t stop because you have planned your next stop that is not the way to go. There is nothing better than flying down the highway and seeing a place of interest, whether it be a biltong shop, safari park or tea garden you need to have the time to stop and enjoy what you want.

The same goes for a gap year, when you find yourself in that random European town that simply captures your heart you want to have the freedom to stay for a while, you don’t want to be rushed.
